In need of wholesome home-delivered meals, safety checks, and social connection?
Interested in volunteering to deliver meals, safety checks, and social connection?
Want to invest in the health and wellbeing of elderly and disabled neighbors?
Since 1977, Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake (MOWC) has provided nutritious home-delivered meals, safety checks, social connection, and care coordination for older and disabled homebound residents who live alone, cannot grocery shop or cook healthy meals, and have no assistance with meal prep.
Your being here to support me (I live alone) has greatly enhanced my confidence that I am not alone, and were I to need outside help, MOW staff would be there! Seriously! I do not naturally trust many folks, and I do not ask for anything. That said, you all have supported me during my time down to an extent far greater than what I signed on for…easily as healing and welcome as the food.
The volunteers are great and so cheerful. Having new faces is a blessing and the cards, candy, gifts are really nice. Thank you for working to provide seniors with food because some would go hungry without it!
Meals on Wheels has helped regulate my diet and has helped with medical conditions. I am very thankful for ALL they do! All of the volunteers are always a delight to see and talk to! I am very thankful for all the staff at Meals on Wheels. Thank you so much!
Monday through Friday, we deliver nourishment, connection, & safety checks to homebound neighbors.
Good food can make a hard day feel a little lighter. 💚
This week’s menu is filled with comforting meals prepared with care for the seniors we serve each day. Thank you for helping us deliver these meals and for taking care of our community!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service.
At Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake, we’re reminded that service takes many forms—and that caring for our neighbors is one way we carry that spirit forward every day.
This Memorial Day, we hold gratitude for those who sacrificed so much and for the communities that continue to show up for one another. 🇺🇸
Our office is closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

We’re officially over 50% of the way to our Give Local 757 goal. 💚
Thank you to everyone who has already shown up for local seniors through this campaign. Your generosity is helping provide meals, safety checks, and connection for older adults facing rising food insecurity and isolation in our community.
But the need continues to grow.
Over the last quarter, one-third of the meals we provided were delivered completely free of charge, while another 50% were offered at subsidized rates to help seniors facing financial hardship.
That’s why this match matters.
Every gift made through May 31 will still be matched—helping your impact go twice as far for the seniors who rely on us every day.
Together, we can help ensure no senior is forgotten.

Community shows up for Ms. Vivian 💚
On her regular Friday route, volunteer Diane noticed something different—Ms. Vivian wasn’t there.
Instead of moving on, she reached out to our team to check in. That simple moment of noticing led us to learn that Ms. Vivian was in rehab, and we coordinated with her family so Diane could visit.
Diane brought a care package from Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake, filled with handmade items from two quilting groups. Included were a placemat, coaster, and pillowcase from The Breakfast Club, along with a quilt made by volunteer Carrie Johnston of The Peace Quilters.
Each piece carried time, care, and intention from volunteers who may never meet the person receiving them, but still choose to show up for them.
When Diane visited Ms. Vivian, it became more than a delivery—it was a long, meaningful visit between friends who had missed each other.
Ms. Vivian was especially moved by the quilt, sharing how warm and comforting it felt.
This is what happens when people notice, follow through, and care for one another.
This is community in action. 💚
